How should you store your equestrian body protector and when do you know it’s time for replacement?
Store your body protector in a cool, dry place either by hanging it or laying it flat. Don't put it in a tack trunk or other enclosed area when it's damp or wet.
Between rides you can wipe it off with a sponge or washcloth. You can use a helmet deodorizer to help keep it fresh. Never put your body protector in the washing machine.
Regularly inspect your vest by checking all of the seams, the closures, the resilience of the foam, and the smoothness of the surface. If the foam doesn't bounce back when squeezed or you notice ridges or lumps then your body protector is compromised.
Replace your vest every three to five years, depending on frequency of use and how much you sweat. When in doubt, it's best to replace your vest so it can do its job protecting you in the saddle.
